"So...a needle pulling thread"

One of my passions in life is costumes. Not just cheap-o costumes made of plastic and crushed velvet, but like movie costumes. Maybe I should say I like period clothing from movies...yes that's better. Start over...One of my passions in life is period clothing from movies (and in some cases periods from other worlds). I would love to be able to buy luxurious fabric and just make wonderful dresses. Here are some dresses I want to make...

As you can probably tell this dress is from Ever After. I love the over layer, under layer look. And I love the sleeves, they are so pretty. This is top on my list of dresses to make.

Next...

This dress is from Emma. I love all the dresses from Emma. But I really like the sage in this dress and the lace over lay and the bow.

Gone With the Wind dress...obviously. This one might be a little ambitious...but I'm dreamin' big. Plus this is kind of her hussy outfit in the movie. But I like it, that's all there is to it.

This is the outfit from the last scene in Gladiator (incidentally my favorite movie...edited) I like all the outfits from this movie but I like the corset top on this one. I love how it's all flowy.

Only two more (for now)...

This is from Star Wars. So beautiful! I just noticed that this dress looks very similar to the Gladiator gown...hmmmm....PS I'm not super crazy about the earmuffs though.

And last but no least...

This is from Enchanted (one of my other favorite movies...unedited). I love the blue and the embroidery.

Well these are some of the dresses I want to make. There are more...but more on that later.

PS I've considered becoming a costume designer...unfortunately BYU does not have that major or really anything close.

I love period dresses too. I especially love the Ever After dress! You did such a good job on your Lord of the Rings dress that I am sure you could make any of these dresses. Maybe this is a good career path for you. You certainately have the talent for it!

I have to admit that the costumes of movies are often my favorite things about watching them. Have you checked out other schools that offer degrees in costume design? If you really wanted to do that you may have to study regular fashion design than work under a costume designer.

Those are so pretty! I especially love the ones from Emma and Enchanted. I think you could still be a costume designer, even if it's not a major. Who actually works in what they majored in anyway?

Mel-girl, you crack me up-I agree with you on the costumes, which is part of why I did costumes and make-up in high school theater, although, I took a better liking to the make-up(though you'd never know it because I hardly wear it!). I read all the things on your drawings...I just love ya. You make me laugh with the comments about pounding your pencil into your paper and the eraser bits left on the papter. Check out my blog!
